A Short History of Our Vacation Resort
The Natural Bridge property has always remained in the hands of private individuals and was developed as a recreational fishing camp. Then, in 1955, it was updated and opened as The Scenic Natural Bridge Tourist Resort. Two of the original stone structures, a stone arch and the dining hall, still stand.
The Scenic Natural Bridge Tourist Resort closed to the public in the 1960s. Later, the property was given a new look and served as a venue for country music concerts. Well-known artists such as George Jones, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Milsap, and Bill Monroe performed during the 1980s in the property’s lovely outdoor amphitheater.
In 1990, Joe and Nancy Shaw purchased the property and turned it into the Tennessee Fitness Spa. The first guests were welcomed in February of 1991. After 33 years of operation, Tennessee Fitness Spa closed its doors at the end of the 2023 season and the Shaw Family turned over the property to the current owners in August of 2024 and they quickly got to work bringing their vision of The Bridges to life.
The Bridges remains locally and family-owned by new owners Stan and Winnette Bevis with their four children and a son in law. At the natural bridges, we envision a sanctuary where the beauty of nature connects with adventure. As the world’s only double-span natural bridges, we are dedicated to creating an unforgettable experience that inspires guests to connect with the breathtaking landscapes around them. We believe that extraordinary experiences should be accessible to everyone. We are committed to offering affordable accommodations and activities to allow all guests to explore the beauty of the bridges without compromising on quality or comfort. We hope that you find serenity in mind, body, and soul as you experience God’s natural creation.
